HYDROELECTRIC
Respond to this post with information about hydroelectric energy.
The main hydroelectric source is a river or a dam. Water moves through a turbine, and the energy from the spinning turbine is captured and use to create electricity.
7 % of the nation’s power is produced from hydroelectric plants. Generators are placed in dams. Then water flows through and spins the turbines which connect to the generators. Then homes and businesses can get the power.
Since the time of ancient Egypt, people have used the energy in flowing water to operate machinery and grind grain and corn. However, hydropower had a greater influence on people's lives during the 20th century than at any other time in history.
With a capacity of more than 92,000 mega-watts— enough electricity to meet the energy needs of 28 million households—the U.S. is the world's leading hydropower producer.
Hydroelectricity can light entire cities just by a flow of water. Water energy has been used for over thousands of years. It is very promising although it isn't as popular because you have to bulid dams and pollute water sources.
Hydroelectricity is the term referring to electricity generated by hydropower; the production of electrical power through the use of the gravitational force of falling or flowing water.
Some advantages of hydroelectric energy is it's renewable, clean, and non polluting. Dams prevent floods. Not all dams produce electricity, but they prevent flooding. Without dams streams and lakes would flood during heavy rains.
