The energy from a nucleus can be released by either nuclear fusion or nuclear fission. In nuclear fission the atoms are split apart creating energy. In nuclear fusion atoms are combined to create energy.
Nuclear energy is the process of fission, which is when uranium atoms split. When they split, it generates heat to produce steam. That heat is used by a turbine and then you have electricity.
Nuclear energy provides approximately 16% of the electricity in the world. The nuclear energy created today is based on the principle of nuclear fusion.
Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium atoms in a process called fission. Fission releases energy that can be used to make steam, which is used in a turbine to generate electricity. Nuclear power accounts for approximately 19 percent of the United States' electricity production. More than 100 nuclear generating units are currently in operation in the United States.
Nuclear energy is energy in the nucleus (core) of an atom. Atoms are tiny particles that make up every object in the universe. There is enormous energy in the bonds that hold atoms together.
